Act at the present for social inclusion in advanced education

The European Union (EU) so-called Social Dimension is one of the most important points of the Bologna process from the perspective of a student. But what does the term mean?

According to the Ministerial Conference held in London in 2007, the social dimension promotes social inclusion, reducing inequalities and raising aspirations and level of knowledge, skills and competences in society.

It also covers the social diversity in terms of participation in and completion of higher education at all levels.

This sounds not only ambitious plan, but very complex and perhaps rather an unfocused. Although it is easy to understand why it is called dimension. Almost all decisions in higher education have a social impact.

This definition is controversial pros and cons. On the one hand, it enables people to interpret the social dimension in accordance with its regional needs or circumstances. On the other hand, it can be a barrier than anticipated measurable operational steps are quite clear.

From the perspective of a student, the social dimension is the main process that allows for social diversity from admission to graduation and entry into the labor market.

From March 7 to 11, various aspects of the social dimension were discussed at the European Convention student in the capital of Ireland, Dublin. Several questions about the shortcomings and future development of the concept were raised at the congress.

Who is the public?

Social dimension affects every member of society. But who is the community? Whose responsibility is the implementation of the social dimension?

Perhaps it is the responsibility of regional and national governments. However, education is also a Europe-wide concern and therefore the EU's role needs to be clarified. Europe currently has no authority to make decisions regarding education, but it should be funded results from a lack of social integration on the continent.

Clearly, there is an educational component of the current financial crisis and that has serious consequences for students in Europe. Not only can stop the crisis in the further development of the process of social dimension, but it can also reverse the effects of the process in the future.
