Act at the present for social inclusion in advanced education

The European Union (EU) so-called Social Dimension is one of the most important points of the Bologna process from the perspective of a student. But what does the term mean?

According to the Ministerial Conference held in London in 2007, the social dimension promotes social inclusion, reducing inequalities and raising aspirations and level of knowledge, skills and competences in society.

It also covers the social diversity in terms of participation in and completion of higher education at all levels.

This sounds not only ambitious plan, but very complex and perhaps rather an unfocused. Although it is easy to understand why it is called dimension. Almost all decisions in higher education have a social impact.

Graduate unemployment - Whose fault is that?

Which pressure on budget cuts higher education institutions to do more with less, it has to justify the different purposes they serve.
Whether it is training people for active citizenship, facilitating social mobility, improving skills needed in the labor market or conduct high quality research, these activities are weighed against each other in competition for resources and create a more efficient system education.
The rising unemployment of young professionals in Europe has stressed the needs of the labor market in relation to reforms in higher education.
Unemployment is not caused by Education
Three arguments are used to explain the need for reform.

Foreigners in Canada - an international student diary

Including my home country of Pakistan, Canada is the fourth country in which I was educated. After obtaining basic home loan, they started my journey as an international student from pursuing a bachelor's degree in business in both the US and Dubai.

While there, I face enormous challenges on several levels.

These challenges ranged from culture shock and adapt to the new environment of racial discrimination. At one point I found myself laughing out loud when I heard a Canadian comedian Russell Peters said that the Middle East are today black people what they had to go through since 9/11.

Loans mobility Degree does not work

Only a few weeks ago, the highest authority for decisions of the European Students Union (ESU) - The Board, composed of 47 national student unions from 39 countries - adopted a resolution calling for scrapping the idea of introducing a European Masters Guarantee Scheme Stage the loan.
Earlier on ESU had voiced serious concerns about this new tool included in the new Erasmus for All proposal as part of the multiannual financial framework (MFF) 2014-20. ESU detailed position on the scheme can be found here.
The ESU has a clear policy preferring grants as a means of helping students over loans. This is related to our firm belief that higher education is a social responsibility that should receive public financial support.
At the end of the day, the benefits of a highly educated population exceeds normal economic rationale for the training of skilled labor as the most generally more educated society is more equal society.

Faced cause of complaint in Turkey

Four or five trees, a park. The current crisis in Turkey began ostensibly because of them. Actually, this is not the case - issues beyond environment. This was not just one person or one party; It was about freedom of speech, lives alone and against the dictatorship, and restrictions on people's lives. Let me explain.

Justice and Development Party - Turkish AKP - in power since 2002 and has won three national general elections. In all elections thereafter, the government party has taken first place with a growing percentage of the vote.

Moreover, in the last election in 2011. The AKP won half the votes, which certainly looks impressive to many.

Tuition fee ramble out of contact with economic reality

Plans to raise tuition fees in Armenia to 30% can have devastating consequences for the Armenian community, as it will severely limit the chances of students to gain access to higher education.

Tuition fees have been increased by 15% on average in May of many public and private universities. This is disproportionate to the socio-economic development of the country, provided that the students have to pay US $ 1,048 in tuition per year, when nominal wages are only about $ 260 per month.

Armenian graduates are already severely affected by the economic crisis and high unemployment, with students facing a grim picture of their future.

European students are very concerned about recent events in Armenia and supported the struggle of the Armenian National Student Association, or ANSA against this policy. On 21 June, the European Students' Union sent a letter to support the ANSA all key stakeholders in the field of higher education in Armenia.

Calculate rotten employability and social welfare

Employability must be seen as a concept that is outside the bubble of economic growth. Higher education should be guided by the labor market and the needs of society. Higher education is a human right and as such, it must be accessible to all.

European Students' Union, or ESU, recommended our society come together on the development of higher education. There is not just one organization responsible for the global development of higher education. ESU sees the development of higher education as a puzzle to be completed only when everyone gives their best, impartial contributions.

Long walk to freedom - Instruction from the youthful Mandela

Who is Nelson Mandela: As a young South African, I have a little weird question? In the story I have been taught that he was the first black president of a democratic South Africa, as a martyr who was imprisoned for 27 years, the Nobel Peace Prize - among many other honors for his major political reform.

Often this knowledge was accompanied by the image of a gray-haired man with a colorful shirt waving admiration of the audience; withered man watched from his cell on Robin Island; or a young gentleman in boxing attire with raised fists.

But for 21-year-old student who never experienced apartheid and oppression that is Nelson Mandela to new dilemmas that 19-year-old democracy has brought about?

Intimidation will not support student learning

When it was announced that the Islamic civilization and Asian studies, or Titus, will of course be made mandatory for students in private universities in Malaysia, it caused a storm of controversy.
Public universities in Malaysia have already been authorized to teach Titus all its students. The move to extend this to private universities is controversial as private universities are believed to have greater autonomy.
Titus is a course that teaches about Islam, Malay, Indian, Chinese and Western civilizations - the ethnic configuration in Malaysia (except the western part). Content is historical, talk about "how we got here" - which should be covered in high school.
Surprisingly, some members of the opposition as mercury Raffia Ramble, not only accepted it, but obviously supported the move, citing the need for greater intercultural understanding in multiethnic Malaysia.

Tackling the crisis of students against austerity has just begun

At the beginning of the new school year is the perfect time to work out what is waiting for students and student movements in the field of higher education.

Nowadays, the European student movement must fight to defend its guiding principles and foundation - namely that higher education is and should be considered a public good and a public responsibility.

The reader who is familiar with the ideas and goals of higher education can be said, "but the principles you speak are common sense and what all governments seek to" I will have to answer that unfortunately this is not so - . And there are indications that the decision-makers who believe in these principles are disappearing.

Right to use to advanced education be supposed to be a global priority

Giants traffic access grow older and begin to retire. It is time for the next generation to take responsibility for the promotion and spread of higher education as a universal opportunity to take up the battle for education as a public good and a public responsibility and inalienable human right.

Evidence in two important events in the international educational recently showed that the student movement is ready and able to take up the challenge.

In recent decades, and higher education in Europe moved from an elite privilege to a mass phenomenon, institutions and governments to radically change strained statistics for enrollment. But access to higher education still remains largely a thing for low- and middle echelons of society.

Long walk to freedom - Education from the youthful Mandela

As a young South African, I asked myself a little strange question: Who was Nelson Mandela? In the story I have been taught that he was the first black president of a democratic South Africa, as a martyr who was imprisoned for 27 years, the Nobel Peace Prize - among many other honors for his major political reform.

[This article is reprinted as a tribute to Nelson Mandela, who died last Thursday. He first appeared in the University World News on July 18, 2013]

Often this knowledge was accompanied by the image of a gray-haired man with a colorful shirt waving admiration of the audience; withered man watched from his cell on Ruben Island; or a young gentleman in boxing attire with raised fists.

Connecting students in superiority reassurance

In search of quality for Students project managed by the European Students' Union, analyzes the views of students on the quality of higher education and certain areas in which students can become more involved in quality assurance and improvement processes.

Research team is working hard on this project for three years and presented the final results of the October 31, 2013 The findings are published in four scientific publications and a guide that all can be downloaded for free on the project website.

Implications for universities referendum mass departure

On February 9, 2014, Swiss voters approved a referendum to limit immigration in Switzerland. As the measure may be contrary to the principle of free movement of people, which is one of the fundamental principles of the European Union, the EU has suspended all ongoing negotiations with Switzerland until the situation is resolved.
This decision will have a serious negative impact on students and researchers since Switzerland will no longer be part of the Erasmus +, and Horizon 2020 for the exchange of students and research funding in the upcoming school year.
And more problems for Swiss higher education community can develop as a result of the referendum, according to its application.

Higher schooling is concerning more than profession

Education has come to be understood only as an economic good and not a tool for social development. Rate markets were down after instrumentalist approach that looks at education purely as an economic resource for the good and prosperity.

This approach education industry focused initially applied to vocational education and training. In the 1990s this approach extends to higher education, neoliberals, in which economic growth is considered the only way to maintain prosperity caught.

Industry-oriented education is an approach to teaching, learning and assessment, which takes care of the needs of industry, ignoring the many goals of higher education as a public good and a public responsibility, which reflects the needs of society as a whole. Favors standardization and not harmonize the different education systems.

Why instruction fees for foreign students will not job

For several years there has been debate about the definition of tuition fees for foreign students courses in Finland. Developments regarding the ongoing attempts tuition fee for non-European Union and European Economic Area (2010-14) students were reported by University World News several times.
In addition to experience, during the regime of the current government (2011-15) that these fees are discussed every spring in the government talks about its spending limits.

Study in a foreign country - to transform the humankind, I know the world

Studying abroad is something that everyone should do at an early age. I feel that education abroad experience helps to shape people's views of life; it helps with opening the mind to other people, cultures and ways of living life.

The opportunity to study abroad - in Italy - came my way through the Upward Bound initiative at Kent State University. The program works with students like me, for our college-ready and increase educational opportunities for students from first-generation, low income.

I was ascending Bound student for about five years and I formed so many relationships on campus. So when I was told about an opportunity for incoming students served Kent State to study abroad, I knew it would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will be beneficial to me.

On becoming a worldwide manager

I always wanted to be a manager and liked to participate in solving complex problems, so work hard together with my engineering education to acquire many skills necessary to become such a person.

I imagined was an international manager 21st century - a quick learner with an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving, with the ability to work outside their area of expertise, where necessary, and to work anywhere in the world to decide in the short term and to communicate with any type of person,

Six key basics of entrepreneurial university

There are six key elements of entrepreneurial university, according to Professor Dares’ Ramjugernath, pro vice-chancellor of the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa - good leadership and management incentives for capacity, entrepreneurship teaching and learning, a culture of entrepreneurship, partnerships with interested countries and internationalization.

Innovation and entrepreneurship development and nation-building is what universities really had to be done, said pro-vice chancellor for innovation, commercialization and entrepreneurship.

"But universities are so driven by formulas subsidies are so driven by the world rankings, so drive as the number one or number two in the country in terms of research, that they have lost perspective on what it means to be a university and what it means to build a nation. "

Private enterprise education is currently in all universities

All universities in the Netherlands now offer entrepreneurship training and from next year it will be mandatory in professional colleges, said senior researcher Dr. Petra Gibbous. But the content varies considerably between institutions and departments - and it took too long to integrate entrepreneurship education into the curricula.

Gibbous is a researcher for Panties, a Dutch company with 150 employees that provides support for decision-makers and conducts research in the field of economic, social and transport fields of national and international clients. Headquartered in the Netherlands, in Zoetermeer, Panties has offices in Belgium, Turkey, China and Kazakhstan.

The announcement of the new momentum to concerns about the relationship between academia and non-profit companies, and the future of scientific publishing.

Moroccan academic Amati Mondi has suspended its three-week hunger strike after authorities completed a travel ban imposed on him. But he was accused of destabilizing State security and could face up to five years in prison.

"I stopped my hunger strike on October 29 after the court's decision to give me back my freedom to travel outside Morocco," 55-year-old Mondi, a professor of political history at the Institute of African Studies at Mohammed V University in Rabat, says in the letter.

Observant parents worry employee’s leadership

Germany of course guidance centers increasingly seeing students turn up with their parents. Helicopter parent phenomenon could at least partly be due to a greater number of underage school leavers enrolling in universities.
Guidance centers are available for students at universities in Germany, to advise them on issues such as structuring studies, preparation for exams or career aspects dealing with the load. Now, parents are increasingly accompanied their children who attend the centers. This is particularly the case among freshmen.
Concerns ranged from parents whether their children have chosen the right subject to study, anxiety having to make their way in the big cities. Some also be informed about how their children have made in tests. However, such behavior is still the exception. "Most students are away from home fairly quickly," says Patrick Honaker, a spokesman for the University of Cologne.

"It's nice to have so many foreign students in Denmark, but when we use our resources to educate them, we must also do more to stop them and work in Denmark after graduation," said Lund Larsen in a statement, published in the press

He therefore began work on developing a strategy for the international Make graduates remain in Denmark, he said.

Ministers paving the way for increased exports for education

Minister of Education and Culture Sunni Grahn-Laasonen and Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Lenity Toivakka last week submitted a proposal to parliament to remove legal barriers to the export of Finnish educational products and expertise.

"There is a huge export potential for education from Finland, but today matters block these. We are currently taking steps to remove these barriers," says Grahn-Laasonen. "The goal is to create more sales opportunities to study abroad and thus improving the resource base for research."

Several projects have been undertaken in Finland since 2009, to prepare strategies for the export of Finnish education, including elaboration of a definition. It was agreed that the term "export education expert" did not adequately cover the Finnish plans that include consulting services and technology solutions to facilitate the learning process.

Industry should employment well again with universities - Minister

Australia ranks "very, very bad" the commercialization of research and must be raised, according to Senator Simon Birmingham, minister of education and training, in a speech to the Council of Australian Research.

He said that all the rankings, especially comparisons with other OECD countries showed Australia to be "among the best in the world for the quality of research results."

"But it will be crucial over the next little while that we lift the performance of Australia in terms of cooperation with the industry and in terms of the commercialization of research. Because we rank much, much worse when it comes to cooperation between universities and industry on research enterprises, "he said.

The bill aims to bring 126 laws in accordance with the Constitution, negotiated between President Robert Mugabe and former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai in 2013, during the days of the coalition government. Students abroad "blocked" subsequent to the solution of economic problems

A sharp decline in oil revenues - the main source of foreign currency of Nigeria - combined with tight fiscal policy of the new government threatened the welfare of Nigerians studying abroad. Many of them were reportedly blocked and there are fears that students may be among the 29,000 Nigerians reportedly targeted for repatriation of the British government.

UK universities are facing the biggest unexpected result in decades

UK universities are facing their biggest shake-up in decades on plans for further transition to a market approach announced in consultation with the Government on 6 November.

The fees are frozen at a maximum of £ 9,000 (US $ 13 550) a year since 2012, when the government lifted the cap of just over £ 3,000. Studies show that all but a handful of universities applying the maximum fee for all of its courses.

The wrong ideology of "free higher education

After listing significant gains transformation solved statement that seven issues should be resolved immediately.

The statement concluded by calling for the role players to report annually on progress with each of the seven immediately and nine medium resolutions.
On Tuesday, October 20, Eyewitness News, entitled "SA varsities brought to a standstill", has announced that students have reported back.

Refugees are reception

Nobody could not be moved by the plight of refugees, which was played on TV screens and in our newspapers this summer.

During the nearly five years of civil war in Syria, the scale of the tragedy was enormous. And, amid the chaos and displacement of over four million people, Said Foundation estimates that about half of the students in the country are currently able to access training programs, due to the conflict.

East London has a long and proud history as a place of settlement of refugees and is now one of the most ethnically diverse areas of London. This fact is reflected in our university, the University of East London, or Will, where we welcome students from more than 120 countries. And in some small sense answer Will the crisis affect our immediate location, and our longer-term history.

Amalgamation at the prearranged time fears for the future of higher education

The largest oil exporter in the world is seeking to transform its system of higher education. With the recent appointment of Dr. Assam Al-Dacha as the new Minister of Education, dramatic changes have occurred. The biggest is the merger of two ministries - higher education and education ministries - in a ministry called the Ministry of Education.

This surprise move has generated fears among a number of academics working in the higher education sector. Despite major investments in higher education have led to a sharp increase in the number of universities in Saudi Arabia, the move could be seen to threaten or limit this process.

In a recent article in Times Higher Education Professor Philip Attach out a roadmap for exiting universities in Saudi Arabia to achieve world-class status. He cautiously said that bureaucratic and administrative structures could stand in the way of this objective.

Unsurpassed of together worlds

There is much written about the vast, limitless potential for online education outreach in developed and even more so in developing countries. I have been involved first hand in facilitating workshops in these countries demonstrate the features and benefits of online delivery, particularly in expanding access to higher education.

There is no doubt that online delivery can provide an improved opportunity to participate in higher education for students who are located in remote areas who are engaged in working full-time who have family responsibilities or medical conditions that prevent attendance on campus, but this is not necessarily a panacea for all students.

I would suggest that online study presents some significant challenges for many people in developing countries, where the quality of what students receive in primary and secondary school levels in terms of teaching resources and curriculum is in many cases a lower standard .

It must respond to the challenges faced by society or lose relevance

More than 2,000 leaders and innovators in the field of education from around the world gathered at the annual WISE Summit in Qatar last week. They were asked in the online survey before the event began that considers higher education is essential for economic progress in the 21st century. More than 60% answered no.

This is a group deeply committed to what one speaker, Ricardo Selmer, CEO of SEMCO Partners and founder of Ralston-Selmer in Brazil, is described as "transformational power of education" and especially its ability to change lives marginalized groups.

This year's winner of the annual prize for WISE Dr. Sabena Jacobi. It was almost single-handedly transformed the lives of thousands of women in the most difficult circumstances in Afghanistan through education. Why then are so many of these pioneers and innovators show such skepticism when it comes to higher education?

Examination of international student success

These stories are far quieter in terms of time and geography, but they share the same feelings and implications for universities: foreign students not just for revenue.
• "Time to stop milking cash cow", October 2007 - The Age, Australia;
• "universities" using foreign students as cash cows '' in September 2012 - The Telegraph, UK;
• "American Colleges cash foreign students", March 2015 - CNBC, USA.
One clear trend, triggered by the global financial recession is increasing pressure to recruit foreign students to create a new line of revenue. Given the intense pressure to increase enrollment, many institutions have missed spotting and adaptation to other major trends, namely the change in communication patterns international student, search behavior and expectations for training abroad.
